Namelok Group

Ololosokwan Village, Loliondo, Tanzania

The Namelok Group is a beekeeping cooperative, comprising 4 sub-groups from each of villages within Ololosokwan. It was initially formed with 10 Maasai women who were trained by Maasai Honey. Now, as more and more trainings have occurred, the group has grown to include over 30 members. The cooperative has also expanded to include male members who expressed interest in learning and practicing beekeeping. The group works together to conduct beekeeping inspections, harvesting, and general hive maintenance. The members are supported by staff beekeepers of Northern Tanzania Beekeeping Company, at their field location in Ololosokwan. Therefore, should novice beekeepers have any questions or issues, professional beekeepers are there to support them.

These beekeepers are supported through beekeeping training, but are also partners in the production of Maasai Honey. When honey is harvested, we pay each beekeepers a fare price for his or her honey. It is our goal that by selling more Maasai Honey, we can support more and more beekeepers in Ololosokwan Village!
